Draft for legal review

Terms of use

How CornyBits is meant to be used by venues, their staff and the players who join their games.

Draft awaiting legal review

This draft of the terms describes CornyBits as it is built today. It is not final legal text. Items marked placeholder still need to be confirmed by the operator. Draft prepared 8 October 2026.

About these terms

These terms describe how CornyBits works and what is expected of the people who use it. CornyBits is provided by operator legal name. Until legal review is complete, treat this page as a description of the product rather than a contract.

Who uses CornyBits

  • Venues sign up as an organisation, add outlets, invite staff and run games. The person who signs up becomes the organisation's owner.
  • Staff are invited by the venue and given a role for the organisation or for particular outlets.
  • Players join a game with the code on the screen. They need no account, though they can make an optional player account to keep a history of their games and, if they choose, share their details with a venue.

Accounts and access

  • Keep your sign-in details to yourself. Each member of staff should have their own account.
  • Owners decide who has access and can remove it at any time. The last owner of an organisation cannot be removed.
  • An organisation can require two-step sign-in for all of its staff.
  • A join code lets a player into one game. It never gives access to hosting or management.

Your content

  • Venues are responsible for the packs, questions, images and audio they add, and need the right to use them. Each pack can record its sources.
  • Starter packs list their sources. Their questions are written for CornyBits, and facts and quotations are checked against the public references listed with them. Installing one copies it into your organisation as a draft you can change.
  • Imported files are treated as data. Nothing in them is run as code.

Playing fair

  • Players must use display names, team names, captions and quotes that are fit for a public screen. Hosts can rename, remove or ban a player, and can reject any caption or quote.
  • The CornyBits server decides when answers are accepted and works out the scores. Staff with permission can correct a score afterwards, and every correction records who made it and why.
  • Do not try to interfere with a game, guess other games' codes or overload the service.

Plans and billing

  • The plans, limits and prices on the plans page come from the CornyBits billing service. Organisations that sign up directly start on a free trial.
  • CornyBits bills each organisation directly. EventSync does not sell or bill CornyBits, and linking an outlet to EventSync does not change who pays.
  • When a trial or plan ends, packs, results and settings are kept. New games cannot start until a plan is active, and a game already running is allowed to finish.
  • Payments are handled by payment provider. Refund and cancellation terms are to be confirmed.

Using the service

  • Live games need an internet connection to the CornyBits server for the host, the screen and the players. Multiplayer games do not run offline.
  • Answers that reach the server after a question closes are not counted, even if they were sent before.
  • Support hours and service levels are to be confirmed.

Linking with EventSync

  • A venue that also uses EventSync can link one EventSync account to one CornyBits outlet. Linking is optional, starts in EventSync, is approved by an owner of the CornyBits organisation and is then confirmed in EventSync. Once it is confirmed, CornyBits sends that outlet's games and results to EventSync, with the details of players who choose to share them with the venue.
  • The venue is responsible for the customer data it receives in EventSync, including any news and offers it sends to players who agreed to them.
  • Either side can disconnect at any time. What has already been sent stays in EventSync, except that EventSync replaces the names of players who did not share with “Guest”.

Still to be confirmed

  • The operator's legal name and address, and the law that governs these terms.
  • Liability, warranties and indemnities.
  • Payment, refund and cancellation terms, and how price changes are announced.
  • Whether and how prizes offered by venues are covered.
  • Support, service levels and how changes to these terms are announced.
